Some vertebrates, including humans, have an area of the central retina adapted for high-acuity vision. Because of this, cephalopods do not have a blind spot.Īlthough the overlying neural tissue is partly transparent, and the accompanying glial cells have been shown to act as fibre-optic channels to transport photons directly to the photoreceptors, light scattering does occur. In contrast, in the cephalopod retina, the photoreceptors are in front, with processing neurons and capillaries behind them. No photoreceptors are in this region, giving rise to the blind spot. The ganglion cells, whose axons form the optic nerve, are at the front of the retina therefore, the optic nerve must cross through the retina en route to the brain. The vertebrate retina is inverted in the sense that the light-sensing cells are in the back of the retina, so that light has to pass through layers of neurons and capillaries before it reaches the photosensitive sections of the rods and cones. Structure Inverted versus non-inverted retina The retina is the part of the body with the greatest continuous energy demand. Like most of the brain, the retina is isolated from the vascular system by the blood–brain barrier. It is the only part of the CNS that can be visualized noninvasively. In vertebrate embryonic development, the retina and the optic nerve originate as outgrowths of the developing brain, specifically the embryonic diencephalon thus, the retina is considered part of the central nervous system (CNS) and is actually brain tissue. Neural signals from the rods and cones undergo processing by other neurons, whose output takes the form of action potentials in retinal ganglion cells whose axons form the optic nerve. Light striking the retina initiates a cascade of chemical and electrical events that ultimately trigger nerve impulses that are sent to various visual centres of the brain through the fibres of the optic nerve. A third type of light-sensing cell, the photosensitive ganglion cell, is important for entrainment of circadian rhythms and reflexive responses such as the pupillary light reflex. Cones function in well-lit conditions and are responsible for the perception of colour through the use of a range of opsins, as well as high-acuity vision used for tasks such as reading. Rods function mainly in dim light and provide monochromatic vision. The primary light-sensing cells in the retina are the photoreceptor cells, which are of two types: rods and cones. The neural retina consists of several layers of neurons interconnected by synapses and is supported by an outer layer of pigmented epithelial cells. The retina serves a function which is in many ways analogous to that of the film or image sensor in a camera. The optics of the eye create a focused two-dimensional image of the visual world on the retina, which then processes that image within the retina and sends nerve impulses along the optic nerve to the visual cortex to create visual perception. The retina (from Latin: rete "net" pl.: retinae or retinas) is the innermost, light-sensitive layer of tissue of the eye of most vertebrates and some molluscs.

Today we're announcing two important updates. I hope you can fix the problem with the solutions.Over the past couple of months, we’ve been welcoming Google Play Music listeners to YouTube Music as they effortlessly transfer their music libraries, personal taste preferences and playlists to YouTube Music. In all, the most direct way to solve Google Play Music not uploading is via a transfer program like FonePaw DoTrans (opens new window). If you try all the methods above but nothing works, the app on your phone may be outdated. The newest version of Google Play Music will run the Google Play Music better. Some of them may block your player and spread viruses. On Android:Go to Settings > Apps/Application manager > Google Play Music > Storage > Clear data. But you should keep in mind that songs that have downloaded on your device will be erased. iPhone and iPad users can skip this step.Ĭlear the app cache may make the playlist and the paly synchronize with each other again. Check if you sign in the same account that you used to buy the music.Īndroid users may turn off the automatic update settings, which makes Google Play Music not showing up the updates. Make sure you log in to the right account or the Music Library Playlist won't sync. Open the Google Play Music app on your phone > Play Music > tap Menu.ĭo you have more than one Google account? You may buy a song from one account but listen to it from another one. To check and fix the problem, follow the steps: You may not notice that when you are uploading the music, your internet is halted, which makes it fails to upload music. Strangely, you can upload the music normally but it just doesn't show in the Google Play Music Library on your phone. Note: If you are using the software for the first time and the computer won't detect the phone, try restarting your computer. Then click the Add button to add music from the Google Play Music file. Click Allow to authorize access to your phone. Step 3 When your phone is detected, select Music in the left-sidebar. Step 2 Connect your phone to the computer. Within several steps, you can listen to music on your phone with Google Play Music. If songs on your computer still won't upload and the above reasons are excluded, you can try uploading the music through a transfer tool like FonePaw DoTrans (opens new window). You need to log in to the account that you used to buy the songs. If the song was skipped, that means you bought it on Google Play with a different account. The song was bought with a different account. But other files like WAV, AIFF, and RA are not supported and can't be uploaded. Google Play Music usually supports audio formats like MP3, WMA, FLAC, OCG, AAC, etc. If it is full, you can delete some of them and upload them later. Music Library can upload up to 50,000 songs. As a music lover, Google Play Music might be one of your favorite players. But since the light is directed toward the screen and not toward your eyes, the Kindle retains its electronic ink advantage of being easy to read. A thin sheet of nano-imprinted flattened fiber optic cable distributes the light uniformly over the entire screen, giving the illusion that it is backlit. The earliest Kindles required you to use a flashlight if you wanted to read in the dark, but now all of Amazon's e-readers have front-lit screens. The crispness of the electronic ink screens makes them much easier to read in direct sunlight than devices with color LCD screens. Unlike LCD screens, the Kindle e-reader's screens aren't backlit. The Paperwhite and Oasis have almost twice that, with 300 ppi.Īll Kindle screens can display images in 16 levels of gray using electronic ink technology. Their screen resolution is 167 pixels per inch (ppi). There is a Kindle Kids Edition, but it is technologically identical to the regular Kindle. The Oasis also has more contrast than the base Kindle. The lighter screen gives more contrast with the text, making it easier to read than the light gray color of the Kindle's screen. The Paperwhite gets its name from its display, which is whiter than the base Kindle display. The Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite have 6-inch (15-centimeter) screens and the Kindle Oasis has a 7-inch (18-centimeter) screen. The central feature on all the Kindle models with the exception of the Kindle Fire tablets is the electronic paper screen. It sells for $130 for the ad-supported version, $20 more for the version without ads. It weighs 6.4 ounces or 182 grams for the WiFi-only model and 6.8 ounces (191 grams) for the cellular-enabled model. It measures 6.6 inches long by 4.6 inches wide by 0.3 inches thick (167 millimeters by 113 millimeters by 8.2 millimeters). The Paperwhite 3G was released in October 2012, and the Paperwhite itself is in its 10th generation as of 2021 (it was released in 2019). The software is the same in both and the ads are fairly unobtrusive. It costs $250 for the ad-supported version and about $20 more for the version without ads. It weighs about 6.6 ounces or 188 grams, again depending on the Kindle's configuration. The largest model in the lineup, the Kindle Oasis, is 6.3 inches wide by 5.6 inches wide by 0.1 to 0.3 inches thick, (149 millimeters by 141 millimeters by 3.4 to 8.4 millimeters), depending on how much memory is installed. The 10th-generation Kindle, released in 2019, is 6.3 inches long, 4.3 inches wide, and 0.34 inches thick (160 millimeters by 113 millimeters by 8.7 millimeters). Since then, Amazon has released many generations and several versions of its popular e-reader. It was 7.5 inches (19 centimeters) long and 5.3 inches (13.5 centimeters) wide, only 0.7 inches (1.8 centimeters) thick and weighed a mere 10.3 ounces. It had a rubberized back that makes it easier for users to hold the device. The original Kindle had an off-white plastic casing and an asymmetric, beveled shape, like a closed three-ring binder. The Kindle E-Reader is seen in Stuttgart, Germany, Feb. And if you decide you want something completely different midway through your travels (as long as you're traveling in the United States or a country in which Amazon offers service for its international Kindle), you can always use the Kindle to access Amazon's store and buy a new book. A single Kindle can hold more than enough titles to tide you over. With a Kindle, you don't have to worry about packing heavy books in your luggage to keep you occupied for your whole trip. That memory capacity also makes Kindle readers very convenient for travelers. Amazon offers free online storage for all of its content, so you may have a backup plan if you somehow run out of space. Today's models do not have card slots, but you can get the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis configured with up to 32GB storage. The original Kindle had a port that allowed users to save titles to a memory card, extending the device's capacity, but then again it only had 250MB of RAM built in. Although there's no standard size for e-books, it's safe to say that that 8GB is enough memory to hold thousands of titles. The $90 Kindle, Amazon's base model, comes with 8GB of storage. Why would you want to use an e-book reader in the first place? One reason is that a single e-book reader can hold many titles. These factors give the Kindle a leg up on the competition. Amazon also has a large customer base, which means a big audience for e-books - and lots of publishers and self-published authors wanting to jump into that market. You can buy a book or subscribe to an electronic version of a newspaper on Amazon and download it directly to the Kindle. Because Kindles are wireless, you can access the store without connecting the device to a computer. When you think, it can be an array of ideas taking shape every now and then. Tyson Whitney is an award-winning journalist who was born and raised in Port Hardy. We know our parents for whole our life, while they know us only part of their lives. I’m really thankful that I have both of them chipping in to help make the Gazette such a strong presence here in the North Island. Derek knows Port McNeill like the back of his hand, and Deb has been covering Port Alice for years now, going all the way back to 2017 when I was first promoted to editor. Seeing as how the Gazette is based in Port Hardy, I’ve always felt local freelancers work best for the other areas of the Tri-Port. This is nothing more than a quick thank you to Derek Koel and Debra Lynn, who have both been consistently putting in excellent work covering their respective areas, Port McNeill and Port Alice. I feel like it would be almost sacrilegious in a way to not sit there eating mini chocolate bars while watching Michael Myers and Jamie Lee Curtis play cat and mouse. Now, while I do watch scary movies all year long, the only time I really ever indulge in junk food anymore is on Halloween night. Why is that? Because it’s the one night of the year I get to binge eat candy and chocolate while watching scary movies. Halloween has passed by the time you’re reading this, but I still want to say it’s my second favourite event of the year, only behind Christmas. Hopefully I’ll get to make my standup (or sitdown if I’m tired) comedy debut, which is a bucket list thing for me that I’ve always wanted to attempt before I kick the bucket. I’m looking forward to next year’s event. I run into people I haven’t seen in awhile, we generally talk about all kinds of hilarious things, and a good time is had by all. There’s always lots of fun to be had, and it’s one of my favourite events to “mingle” at. Now, I’m not great at drawing by any means, but it’s still a fun hobby that I enjoy putting a few hours into here and there. On one hand I’m sad because I do love being outdoors during the summer and fall months, but on the other hand, I’m happy because I get to spend more time inside my pad watching movies and doing some of my other favourite activities, like working on my fantasy novel that I’m currently writing and drawing in my sketchbook. Luckily for us, the Shower Feelings social media project is here to lend us a helping hand. But they have a dreamlike quality in that it’s hard to keep a firm grip on these thoughts. Share your funny thoughts with others and see how you create a riot of laughter around you. And it’s a pity because the things that pop into our heads are fascinating. However, let’s get real for a moment: how many of us actually remember these thoughts the moment we step out of the shower, let alone when we’ve finished toweling our hair dry?
